Pure Fiction has reset once again, which means it’s time to dive back in and secure those 12 stars for Stellar Jades. If you’re struggling to clear this mode, don’t worry—I’ve got you covered.
After playing Pure Fiction multiple times, I’ve learned several key strategies that will make your runs much smoother!
1. The Two MVPs – Hera & Himeko
If you want an easier time in Pure Fiction, you need to invest in Hera and Himeko.
Why Hera?
✔ Completely free – Everyone has her at E6 if you’ve completed Simulated Universe.
✔ One of the best AOE carries for Pure Fiction.
✔ Only being outclassed now by Jade, a new limited five-star designed for this mode.
Why Himeko?
✔ As a standard five-star, many players already have her.
✔ Excels in Fire-weak stages, especially as a hyper carry.
Even if you ignored these two before, now is the time to invest in them. If you’re struggling to get 12 stars, level them up and build them properly.
2. Understanding Pure Fiction’s Enemy Waves
One thing Pure Fiction does well is setting up certain elements for success.
🔹 Many stages feature Fire and Ice weaknesses together → Hinting at Himeko + Hera synergy.
🔹 When they’re separate, there’s usually at least one Fire or Ice weakness to take advantage of.
Since Pure Fiction revolves around fighting waves of smaller enemies, neither of these units will fall off unless HP scaling increases dramatically (which is unlikely).
💡 What to do: If you’re struggling to clear Pure Fiction, invest Trailblaze Power into Hera and Himeko—they will carry you.
3. Swap to Energy Regen (ER) Ropes on Key Characters
Since Pure Fiction is all about fast-paced combat, many DPS units end up overkilling enemies and wasting damage.
A simple fix? Use Energy Regen (ER) ropes instead of raw damage stats.
Why ER Ropes Work in Pure Fiction
✔ Helps spam ultimates more often.
✔ Makes AOE-focused ults more effective than basic attacks.
✔ Maximizes wave-clearing efficiency.
Who Benefits the Most?
- Kafka – Normally runs ATK rope for DoT damage, but an ER rope lets her spam her ult, making AOE clears easier.
- Jing Yuan – His Lightning Lord is overkill, but his ultimate does enough damage on its own. An ER rope lets him use it more frequently.
💡 What to do: If your DPS feels like they’re wasting damage, try an ER rope to see if it improves their performance.
4. Drop the Healer – Go All-In on Offense
Unlike Memory of Chaos, Pure Fiction doesn’t require all characters to stay alive for you to get full stars.
Because enemies in Pure Fiction aren’t as threatening, you can get away with running no sustain characters (healers/tanks) in many cases.
🔹 Example Team: Hera Hyper Carry
- Hera (Main DPS)
- Sparkle (Buffs + Skill Points)
- Tingyun (More Buffs)
- Robin (More Buffs!)
You can reset if someone dies too early, but if they fall near the end, it won’t impact your score.
💡 What to do: If you’re struggling, try swapping out a sustain unit for a third support and go full offense.
5. Don’t Underestimate Non-AOE Characters
Most people think you need an AOE carry to clear Pure Fiction. While AOE is great, some single-target or follow-up attack characters actually perform well.
Surprising Picks That Work
- Topaz – Recently performed extremely well due to Elite enemies being weak to Fire.
- Seele – People have cleared 40K+ with Seele alone. Even though she’s single-target, her resets allow crazy fast clears.
- Acheron – Initially, players worried about overkill and not enough ult uptime, but she turned out to be insane at clearing waves and bosses.
💡 What to do: If you don’t have the “perfect” AOE character, try experimenting with follow-up units or hyper carries.
6. Experiment Like Crazy – Weird Teams Can Work
If you feel stuck, the best thing to do is try different team comps.
🔹 Example 1: Blade + Seele Dual Carry
- Blade → Chips down enemies & weakens big targets.
- Seele → Resets and finishes off waves.
🔹 Example 2: Jing Yuan + Blade
- Jing Yuan → Focuses on AOE.
- Blade → Adds extra AOE while covering Wind weaknesses.
Sometimes, the weirdest team setups end up being the most effective.
💡 What to do: Keep experimenting! Just because a team doesn’t seem meta doesn’t mean it won’t work.
7. (Bonus Tip) – If All Else Fails, Pull Jade or Argenti
Gacha games love selling solutions to problems they create, and Honkai: Star Rail is no different.
If none of the above tips help, the easiest way to clear Pure Fiction is by pulling one of the current best characters for it.
✔ Jade – Easily clears 40K with minimal investment.
✔ Argenti – Another strong Pure Fiction carry.
💡 What to do: If you really can’t get past 12 stars, consider pulling one of these two.
Final Thoughts – Keep Experimenting & Have Fun
Pure Fiction is one of the more forgiving game modes, so take advantage of it!
✔ Use Hera & Himeko – If you haven’t built them yet, now is the time.
✔ Try ER ropes – More ultimates = faster waves.
✔ Drop sustain units – Sometimes, more damage is better than staying alive.
✔ Don’t overlook odd picks – Hunt & follow-up characters can still be effective.
✔ Experiment with team comps – The best strategy is often the one you haven’t tried yet.
I hope these tips help you clear Pure Fiction and secure all your Stellar Jades.
